DRIE HOLLANDSE SCENES // vocals, video, electronics (2016, duration: 14')
VIDEO IMPRESSION, 4'
Three short, surreal scenes for vocals, video and electronics, built around Dutch archive footage from the 1930s to ‘50s. Featuring spooky montages of farmers using giant rattles to scare off birds in a cherry orchard, scientists tuning church bells, and a group of female railroad crossing guards communicating with each other through a kind of musical sign language. Some of the musical material follows a similar process to that of the video, in that it draws on old Dutch folk melodies and texts that are cut up and rearranged. Made in collaboration with vocalist Sterre Konijn.
